GWE Business West – key priority for
business is stable Government
Business concerns over a
hung parliament are once more reinforced by a poll by British
Chambers of Commerce (BCC) which shows that the majority of
businesses (58%) want a new Government to prioritise reducing the
UK’s budget deficit once ministers are in place but that many
believe this will now be harder to achieve with the result of the
election delivering no overall majority.
Respondents were also asked
what form of Government they would now consider to be the best for
UK business. Nearly half (45%) selected a Conservative-led
coalition, given the outcome of the election. 19% suggested a
Conservative minority would be the best option, while 15% opted for
a Labour-led coalition.
Commenting, Phil Smith,
Managing Director GWE Business West said:
"Our members have taken
a big interest in this election and are keen to see a new
government take clear, decisive action to cut the UK’s budget
deficit. We understand the need for careful negotiation but between
parties but believe a new government needs to be formed quickly, so
decisions can be made and confidence restored in our
economy”.
