Bristol Chamber of Commerce & Initiative

The Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of the Bristol business community. In particular, it engages in the vital debates about both current issues and the future development of the City. As part of the wider GWE Business West Chambers of Commerce network, the Bristol Chamber has an opportunity to have a say in the wider strategic questions which affect the whole sub-region, and given its prominence in the South West,  enables Bristol Business to have representation at both Regional and National levels through the SW Chamber of Commerce.

Founded in 1823 by a group of ship owners who had become concerned at the Bristol Dock fees, following construction of the Floating Harbour, The Bristol Chamber has experienced many changes, and reacted accordingly on behalf of its members. Whilst many indigenous Bristol businesses have disappeared over the years, the City and the sub region have maintained remarkable resilience, with new sectors developing in aerospace, technology, creative media, and environmental science. With four Universities,  an International Airport and an expanding sea Port all within easy reach of the national road and rail network, the West of England is well placed to maintain its 2nd place as highest provider of GDP in England, behind London.
