Update magazine wants your news!
The Update editorial team are always keen to
hear from full members who have a success story they want to
share. In particular, we welcome items for the Members’
Zone section of Update which features your news articles, an ‘in
brief’ section and a ‘new faces’ page. We would also like to
hear from full members who would like to contribute to our ‘Expert
Advice’ page and our main features. We try to publish as much
member news as possible and our criteria for a good story is that
it must be newsworthy and of interest to our cross-section of
readers.
Here are some tips to help you:-
- Newsworthy stories include, company award wins,
contract wins, business expansion and relocation. Bad story
examples include articles which only promote a company and its
products and services with no news angle usually lifted from a
company brochure or an existing advert.
- Ensure your article is impartial by focusing on
the ‘issue’ and your company, although your company name will be
credited in the article.
- Examples of ‘business issues’ are ‘How to’
articles and current business issue, i.e. new legislation.
- Articles with good photos will always be
considered for publication. Photos should ideally be high
resolution, 300 dpi in jpeg or eps format.
- Examples of a good photo include, people in
action, photos taken from an innovative vantage point – e.g. close
up of a face, group shot taken from above. Examples of a bad
photo include, people stood against blank office walls, managers in
suits shaking hands.
- Contributions to our planned features must be
relevant to the topics. See the Forward Features 2010 on our
website.
