Bath Chamber Park and Ride Fare increases: The Chamber has expressed concern at the Council proposal to raise charges for the park and ride by 14% from April 1st. The Chamber Executive are to have a special meeting during the month to discuss the Budget with Council Deputy Leader Malcolm Hanney. They will also have their annual meeting with Cabinet members to raise a number of issues. info@bathchamber.co.uk Airport: A variety of initiatives are underway designed to bring better value to Bath from Bristol International Airport. They include discussions about improved public transport links and better promotion of the Bath tourist offering at the terminal and within in-flight magazines. Big vehicles: The Chamber is encouraging a debate now about controlling large vehicles in the city centre. Many towns and cities impose time restrictions on collections and deliveries and if areas of pedestrianisation increase in Bath city centre the importance of the issue will increase. Further information from info@bathchamber.co.uk Core strategy/Future for Bath: A joint response to the draft Core Strategy document was delivered from the Initiative for B&NES and the Chamber of Commerce. Both organisations will continue to take a keen interest in the development of policy and plan to hold an event in March to formulate a more detailed contribution to the debate. Meanwhile the Chamber wrote in support of the work that has gone on to produce a coherent vision for the future of the City. Further information from info@bathchamber.co.uk Business West merger with GWE: Approval has been given for the merger of the two organisations which will provide a better platform to win Government contracts. There will be no material effect on Bath Chamber of Commerce - in fact there has been an explicit assurance that additional efforts will be made to support the activity of Chambers, re-invigorating it where necessary. Bath Plus: Good progress continues to be made. An Acting Chief Executive has been appointed and the advertisement for the City Centre Manager for Bath has been posted on the website of the Association of Town Centre Managers. The commitment would be to give a short presentation about yourself and your job between 9.30 - 11.30am. People will have a chance to join a public discussion about the expansion of Bath. The second meeting will take place on April 15th at the same time and venue to discuss traffic and pollution - safeguarding our environment. More information from www.betterbath.org.uk Success for North Radstock College: It has become one of only eight training providers in the UK to be awarded a Trades Union Congress quality award plaque in recognition of its success in helping shift workers add to their skills. Bank of England: The next Inflation Report briefing will be held on Wednesday March 5th at 8.30 am at the offices of Bevan Brittan at 1 Queen Street, Bristol - a buffet breakfast will be available from 8.00am and proceedings should end by 9.45am. Organisers are keen to attract more supporters, especially businesses who would be willing to provide sponsorship to cover the costs of bringing in speakers. Shopping campaign: Bath Tourism Plus, the public/private partnership between the Initiative for B&NES and B&NES Council, is promoting the best of the City's shopping with 'Boutique Bath' campaign. It will focus on the high percentage of independent shops in the city with their diversity, flair for merchandising and highly personalised service. Further information from www.visitbath.co.uk A36 Limpley Stoke & Monkton Combe - important Road Closure information: The A36 South of Bath at Limpley Stoke and Monkton Combe will be undergoing essential stabilisation work from Monday 31st March for a period of approximately 12 weeks. There will be no access to through traffic for the duration of the scheme.
