Bath Chamber

Thumbs up for Bath Plus: The Chamber has been involved in discussions which have led to the Initiative for B&NES and the Council to combine to form Bath Plus Ltd, a new public/private partnership which will employ a City Centre Manager and in due course have a greater involvement in tourism and festivals activity across the whole district.

Not long now: The deadline for responses to the B&NES Council Core Strategy review is looming. You've only got until December 17th to have your say. The Chamber's City and Economic Development Committee will take a lead in digesting the document and ensuring the voice of business is heard but we would like to hear what individual members think. The full Core Strategy document can be viewed on line at www.bathnes.gov.uk/corestrategy All comments need to be made by December 17th. Please also send copies of your contributions to info@bathchamber.co.uk

Joint meeting: The Chamber Executive and the Initiative for B&NES held a joint meeting in the delightful surroundings of the Wessex Restaurant at the University of Bath. Those present heard a detailed presentation about the latest Crest Nicholson development plans for Western Riverside and a presentation on the economic benefits that the University of Bath brings to the City.

Picture this: You can promote your business for free by sending in a photograph of business activity in Bath which will be part of the presentation which is included in the business community service in the Abbey at 1.00pm on Thursday December 20th. Please send jpegs to info@bathchamber.co.uk with Christmas Service in the subject box.

Cultural Feasibility Study: Richard Crossland from ABL Cultural Consulting will be leading a presentation as part of the Cultural Feasibility Study process. Thursday November 15th from 6.00pm until 8.00pm at the Forum, St James Parade. RSVP to Jackie_price@bathnes.gov.uk

Hello, Hello, Hello: If you know a police officer, a community support officer or a special constable you think deserves recognition for their work you can nominate them for the Annual Community Policing Awards. More details at www.communitypolicingawards.org

Hollywood in Bath: Filming of The Duchess will be underway on Sunday November 11th at the Holburne Museum in the morning and Royal Crescent in the afternoon. On Monday November 12th they're due to be at the Roman Baths whilst on Tuesday and Wednesday they'll be filming a ball in the Assembly Rooms.

Light work: Watch out for work, which is due to start on November 12th and last for eight weeks, to improve the traffic signals at Twerton Fork, at the junction of the A4 and A36. All the work will be undertaken during the night from 9.30pm to 5.30am with lane closures on the dual carriageway and a 40mph restriction.

Bank of England: The next Bank of England Inflation Report briefing will be held on November 16th at 8.30am. A buffet breakfast will be available from 8am at BDO Stoy Hayward, One Victoria Street, Bristol, BS1 6AA. Contact claire.weetch@bankofengland.co.uk if you would like to attend.

Christmas Market: Things get underway at 10am on Thursday November 29th and it runs through to Sunday December 9th.

Patrick Finch: Many thanks to Patrick Finch, of Bath University who has stood down from the Chamber's City and Economic Development Committee. As a former Chairman, he has been a stalwart of the group and has made a valuable contribution over the years.
Also to Committee member Andrew Purvey of Wessex Water who has moved to a new job in Exeter.

Box of white ribbons: As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Week between November 26th and 30th Bath & North East Somerset Community Safety and Drugs Partnership is running a week of activities to raise awareness. They'd like retailers to have a small box of white ribbons, the symbol of the campaign, available for shoppers. No donation would be expected from shoppers, the aim is simply to raise awareness of the week. To order a box, telephone Claire Middlehurst on 01225 396181 or e-mail claire_middlehurst@bathnes.gov.uk

Nobel winner: Professor Anil Markandya from the University of Bath was among those who worked for the United Nations' climate change panel, which shared this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

New Course: Bath Spa University is launching a new "Marketing Business" short course. It runs over ten weeks from January 2008 through a combination of seminars and via a virtual learning environment. Participants will learn through a mixture of group work, online discussion forums, lectures, reading and research. Application can be made by contacting the University's Business Support Office on 01225 875551 or e-mail e.james@bathspa.ac.uk.

Traffic Notices: You can find proposed traffic restriction notices on the B&NES Council website. On the left hand side of the home page you will see "Main Areas." Select "Transport and Streets", go to "Road, Highways and Pavements" and scroll down to " Roads - Road Works". Select "Road Reports" and then "Public Notices - Highways". The page will then give you an option of what type of notice you would like to look at. That's all there is to it !
