Transport Conference
Bath and North East Somerset Council is running a very important event to discuss how best to tackle the problem of traffic congestion. They are particularly keen to hear from local businesses and would like to invite members to the Banqueting Hall in the Guildhall on Wednesday January 21st, starting with light refreshments at 5.30pm and ending by 9.00pm. John Everitt, Chief Executive of Bath and North East Somerset Council, will open the meeting and Colin Skellett, Chairman of the Initiative for Bath and North East Somerset, will give concluding comments. If you would like to attend, please e-mail ian_reynolds@bathnes.gov.uk or telephone 01225 394485.
Public Realm
The eagerly anticipated document setting out the Council’s aspirations to improve public spaces has now been published. It paints a picture of how Bath could look in the future and it sets out some general ideas of time scale. However, it does not attempt to tackle the detail of funding and delivery, but rather raises questions and lays out the challenges facing both the local authority and the private sector. The Chamber has been broadly supportive of the general approach but will be pressing for progress to be made as quickly as possible during a meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Panel being held early next week. The document is on the Council website. It runs to more than 130 pages, so if you would like our very short summary or wish to express your views, e-mail info@bathchamber.co.uk
