Businesses in the South West (except Cornwall) will now have access to a dynamic new range of publicly funded, high growth business support services.
The reasoning behind the support
Speaking at the CBI Conference, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of firms with strong growth potential. He explained that although just six per cent of UK firms are high growth businesses, they generated over half of the employment growth between 2005 and 2008.
High growth businesses, which significantly outperform their competitors and the overall national rate of economic growth, must now play a vital role in taking up the slack in the economy. These are vital drivers for the economy – the companies that will create the employment that can replace an estimated 490,000 public sector job losses resulting from the Comprehensive Spending Review.
What are the services?
Therefore, GWE Business West has developed three brand new services aimed specifically at boosting the region’s high growth business: Starting a High Growth Business, Coaching for High Growth and Understanding Finance for Business.
Targeting the areas of greatest need for businesses to achieve their full growth potential, the services have been created to provide free, independent and highly specialist support. Backed by European ERDF funding, it involves the management team in a number of facilitated sessions – workshops, advice and hands-on support. These are designed to bring team members together, providing clarity and insights into the key issues facing the business as it moves forward – focusing on practical actions with clear timelines and responsibilities.
To facilitate the programmes, over 100 expert, independent business coaches have been selected from across the region. This selection process offers businesses ‘quality-assured’ expertise – a guarantee of considerable boardroom experience and first-hand knowledge of growing businesses.
