Business West plays a leading role in a
number of partnerhsips linking the public and private sectors to
produce solutions which benefit the whole community. These

Initiative
for Bath and North East Somerset
The West of England Initiative is made up of
leaders of the business community, voluntary and public sectors who
believe if the community in which they operate functions
effectively, this in turn will benefit business. The activities of
the Initiative are funded by these patrons' annual subscriptions,
while many also make valuable contributions of time and
expertise.

Initiative for North Somerset
The North Somerset chapter of The West of
England Initiative continues to develop. It aims to provide a
strategic channel through which public and private sector can
discuss and debate key issues affecting this part of the
sub-region. The initiative aims to pull together the resources of
local businesses to solve mutual problems.

Bristol Cultural Development Partnership (BCDP)
Set up in 1993 by the Bristol Chamber of
Commerce and Initiative (now Business West), Bristol City
Council and the Arts Council South West England, the BCDP
developed Bristol's bid for European Capital of Culture 2008. This
led to Bristol being awarded the title European Centre of Culture -
one of only five in the country. Other projects include
At-Bristol, Brief and Animated Encounters, Bristol Legible
City, the Bristol Great Reading Adventure and the Bristol
Festival of Ideas.

West of England Partnership
The West of England Partnership consists of four unitary
authorities - Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North
Somerset and South Gloucestershire and a range of social, economic
and environmental partners. The Partnership's aim is to work
together, sustain prosperity and to enhance the confidence of
public and private investors. Particular focus is given to
transport, appropriate housing supply, economic competitiveness and
inclusion, and culture, leisure and tourism.

Connexions West of
England
A non-profit partnership, Connexions West of England offers
information, advice and support for all young people, 13-19 years,
in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South
Gloucestershire.

The Broadmead
Board
Broadmead Board Ltd (BBL) is actively involved
in the £500 million eastward expansion of Broadmead,
which is due
to open in autumn 2008. BBL was also
the main driving force behind achieving
a ‘yes’ vote from the
Broadmead retailers in the Business Improvement
District (BID) vote, which will over the next few years
transform Broadmead, introducing new paving, lighting and street
furniture.

Destination Bristol
Six years on from its inception, Bristol
Tourism and Conference Bureau entered 2005 with a new name, a new
brand, and a new mission. Formed in 1999 through a partnership
between Bristol City Council and Bristol Chamber of Commerce, the
company has since led the marketing of Bristol as a travel
destination, during which time tourism has grown to become a £500
million industry for the city, employing nearly 16,000
people.

Learning and Skills Council
West of England (LSC)
The LSC exists to make England better skilled
and more competitive. It is responsible for planning and funding
high-quality vocational education and training for everyone. It has
a single goal: to improve the skills of England's young people and
adults to world-class standards. The LSC West of England is chaired
by John Savage, executive chairman of Business West.

ABLAZE
ABLAZE is a UK registered charity. It
began as the business support group for the Bristol Education
Action Zone and is now building on that excellent foundation to
reach out to education, business and communities across the West of
England. It aims to bring these together to improve
attainment, attendance and achievement in our schools.

West of England Sport Trust
The West of England Sport Trust works
collectively to increase, promote, support and celebrate lifelong
participation in sport, whether casual or organised. It aims to
improve physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social
relationships or obtaining results in competition at all
levels.

Bath and District
Business Crime Reduction Partnership
The Bath and district business Crime Reducation Partnership is a
membership organisation, supported by Business West, Bath and North
East Somerset Council and the Police. It is geared tohelpingreduce
retail crime in the city, in Keynsham and in Radstock and Midsomer
Norton, by linking businesses and CCTV operators via a radio
link.

Team West of
England
Team West of England was set up to ensure the
area makes the most of the opportunities generated by the 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games being held in London. Under the
Chairmanship of Bath MP Don Foster, the group draws together local
authorities, universities and business.
