Employer Apprenticeship Conference to confront the confusion and help businesses reap the rewards

The Government’s apprenticeship levy represents a milestone in transforming the way employers access talent and how the education system operates for young people.

Despite this, many businesses aren’t yet getting the benefits, or even have an understanding of how the scheme works. In fact, research from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has found that more than a third of businesses are not aware of the government's new apprenticeship funding scheme.

To bring clarity to regional employers, SGS College, in conjunction with Business West, City of Bristol, City of Bath and Weston College, plus the Western Training Provider Network, are hosting the Employer Apprenticeship Conference  on Friday 9th February at SGS College’s WISE Campus in Stoke Gifford, Bristol.

The Employer Apprenticeship Conference is open to employers of all sizes and will provide a variety of workshops to help people understand the levy process. Workshops will be run by representatives from all event partners. All employer types will be catered for, including the public sector where special rules apply. Large employers can discover how they can get a return on their mandatory investment and smaller and medium sized employers can discover the new incentives and funding system to engage in apprenticeships.

There will also be an optional FE sector recruitment event in the afternoon, which will offer employers a further opportunity to get involved with apprenticeship delivery.

Principal of SGS College, Sara-Jane Watkins, comments: “There is real scope for innovation in the apprenticeship landscape, which can result in genuinely life-changing opportunities for young people. The levy also provides employers with a golden opportunity to build and shape the workforce they want driving their business.”
