Chambers of Commerce throughout the South West have been praised by The Queen in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As businesses throughout the region started to re-open, the letter from The Queen as Patron of the British Chambers of Commerce, said:
“At a time of great difficulty for many, it is heart-warming to see the civic response and generosity of so many businesses, small and large, to the challenges posed whether supporting the health sector or vulnerable communities.
“As Patron of the British Chambers of Commerce, it gives me great pride to see the contribution you and your members are making to help firms, champion trade and rebuild communities”.
Phil Smith, managing director of Business West, the largest membership organisation in the region representing business via the Chambers of Commerce in Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, said:
“Over the past 160 years, Chambers have helped businesses through the Industrial Revolution, two World Wars and countless economic shocks and recessions. Now, we are trying to play a vital role helping business through the coronavirus pandemic too.
“Through our lobbying and campaigning activities, advice and support over the last three months, our Chambers of Commerce have really come into their own in the toughest of times.”
More than 70,000 businesses have visited the Business West Trading Through Coronavirus website hub to get expert advice and guidance.
