Swindon’s Festival of Tomorrow aims to bring the trust of scientists during Covid to attract young people to the learning of science.

Dr Rod Hebden, founder and director of the festival being held in Swindon next month - 7th-26th February, said:

“Covid really has brought to the forefront of our minds how much we  depend on science and the work our scientists and researchers do.

“Young people are seeing first-hand how science can help them make a difference to the world, whether developing vaccines or tackling climate change.

“Living through the pandemic has really helped to humanise science and increase our trust in the scientists”.

Business West are one of the festival’s sponsors and Ian Larrard, director of Business West for Swindon and Wiltshire, said:

“Business West is proud to be a sponsor of the Festival of Tomorrow and fully supportive of its aims.

“Science has made a huge contribution over the last two years during the pandemic.

“We hope that it can build a legacy in terms of encouraging our young people to consider STEM career pathways and help expand upon Swindon’s impressive reputation for pioneering science, technology and engineering”

The festival - a blended hybrid event - is open to local schools and people all over the UK.

An exciting schools programme and social community events culminate in a two-day physical festival to be held at the Deanery CE Academy in Wichelstowe during half term.

Main business sponsors for the festival include Swindon-based UK Research and Innovation(UKRI), Intel and the UK Space Agency whose headquarters are also in Swindon.

One of the big attractions will be the appearance of Neville and Sally Hollingworth from Swindon who recently discovered the so- called Mammoth Graveyard at Cerney Wick.
