Q&A with Amanda Gallagher, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West

21st April 2021

Tell us a little about yourself; your job role and career background?

I’m Amanda Gallagher, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West, Charlton Farm. My role is to make it as easy as possible for companies of any size to support this amazing charity and to ensure partnerships are mutually beneficial. I’ve worked for the charity for 4 years but volunteered long before that and started work in insurance!

What’s a typical working day for you?

As a fundraiser there is no such thing as a typical working day – I could be checking in with current supporters, going to a networking event, welcoming Bristol City players to the hospice or hosting a Sports Lunch – no two days are ever the same!

Can you tell us a bit more about Children’s Hospice South West and your vision as a company?

Our ethos as a charity is to place families at the centre of everything we do and we exist to make the most of short and precious lives. We have been supporting children with life-limiting conditions and their families in the south west for 30 years but it is only with your support that we can ensure we can continue to be here for another 30 years and beyond.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love the variety and the knowledge that what I do genuinely make a difference to the families we support, ensuring our care team can be there no matter how or when families need them.

And what are the most challenging aspects?

There aren’t enough hours in the day! I know that I need to be out talking to people and sharing the fantastic work we are doing but there isn’t enough time to get to everyone to share this message.

How has Business West Chambers of Commerce membership helped you or your business?

We are new members to the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, regularly attending networking – virtually and in person when we can! Membership has really helped us raise our profile and from discussions, enabled businesses to see how supporting Children’s Hospice South West can benefit them as well as the charity.

Tell us about a business who have supported your charity – benefits for both, challenges, results?

Triangle Networks have been a fantastic support of Children’s Hospice South West over the past few years. Supporting the charity has enabled them to change their conversations with potential customers and meet new potential customers through our networking events. Their support has opened up opportunities for us to work with other businesses across the South West and they have supported CHSW not only with fundraising but by raising our profile and helping to get us in front of new audiences and potential supporters.
