Brook is a self-taught artist based in Bristol, who learnt to paint from his bedroom in the seaside town of Hastings, where he was born and grew up.
In June 2017, he joined the Prince's Trust's Explore Enterprise Course with the idea to pursue his creative career as a painter. Explore Enterprise helps 18 to 30-year-olds turn big ideas into a business reality.
The programme is part of the Enterprising West of England programme, delivered in partnership with Business West and funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
Brook has been fascinated by the work of traditional painters for as long as he can remember and at the age of seventeen he found some old paintings that his father had created, which inspired him to spend endless hours painting and refining his skills.
Brook saw his painting as a hobby until moved to Bristol where he believes his creative process really took off. His love for traditional art is still a strong inspirational factor, but he has discovered a unique style of composition that enables him to visually celebrate the sitter’s personality while standing alone as decorative piece of art.
Painting with oil paints onto wood, Brook creates the most beautiful portraits of people he knows or strangers he passes within the city of Bristol. Colour choices are key to his work and he believes in choosing the right pallet, alongside the use of gold and silver metal leaf, to generate different emotions in the viewer.
The original paintings are professionally photographed in order to create prints in A1-A5 which Brook sells online and at multiple events, including exhibitions in Shanghai, Shoreditch and Bristol.
Alongside his talent for painting, Brook is involved in many theatre and musical performances within the city. Including performing as a singer songwriter in local venues and writing the music for Mr Maglump the musical, to be performed at the Bristol Old Vic.
Brook is an extremely charismatic and talented individual, with the passion, skills and motivation to take his business a long way.
He has recently received the Will it Work Grant in order to attend the Talented Art Fair in London and he will be attending the Business Launch Group within the next few months so that he can continue to take his business from strength to strength with the dedicated support of the Trust and his business mentor.
