1989 was a landmark year for business.
Semiconductor and microchip maker, Intel, released its ground-breaking 486 series of microprocessors, paving the way for the home computing revolution of the 1990s.
Somewhat remarkably, Intel was still making the chip up until 2007 – a longevity that is relatively unheard of in the computing world – but even so it failed to outlive another groundbreaking innovation also released in the same year: Microsoft Office.
