A practical session where we will take you through the steps we have taken towards building a sustainable future. During the event, our speakers will share what they've learnt over the past year including the steps they've made on their B Corp and carbon reduction journeys, leaving you feeling inspired and equipped to put your own carbon reduction plans in place.

We will be joined by Greg Pilley from Stroud Brewery and colleagues from Business West who will give you helpful tips and show you their approach.

Our speakers

  • Greg Pilley, Managing Director at Stroud Brewery

Stroud Brewery was launched in 2006 by Greg Pilley who had an interest in sustainability and a background in environmental biology graduating as a marine biologist.

Stroud Brewery was the chance to bring those values into enterprise and the first commitment was using malting barley grown on the Cotswolds. In 2017 they became a dedicated organic brewery, and an accredited B Corp in 2018 which has provided a holistic measure of the business’s environmental and social performance.

Greg will give you a introduction to Stroud Brewery, and discuss how businesses can measure their sustainability impact effectively. He will also share the challenges they faced and their recommendations for success.

Business West speakers include:

  • Sam Shinner, Estate and Operations Manager (based at Leigh Court in Bristol)

Sam looks after Leigh Court building and the grounds, has been instrumental in leading the drive towards Net Zero, reducing emissions of both the building and looking at nature recovery in the acres of grounds alongside securing and maintaining our BCorp status.

  • Andy Waylen, Process Improvement Manager (based at Park House in Swindon)

Andy takes care of our ISO standards including our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification, our carbon footprint reporting and supports Refill Swindon – a local Swindon initiative to reduce plastic pollution.

  • Jessica Vallentine, Director of Responsible Business

Jessica has been heading up our Net Zero services at Business West and along with Sam Shinner, secured and maintained our B Corp status initially gained in 2021.

We'll also be joined by:

What are we doing to reduce our environmental impact?

At Business West we place a large focus on reducing our environmental impact, and are now proudly a carbon neutral company, becoming a B Corp organisation in 2021. We have goals to achieve net zero emissions by 2030, and have set out clear steps to achieve this.

We know how difficult it can be to start your own net zero plan, and have been helping local businesses understand the basics and get started through our practical workshops and 1-2-1 net zero support.

You can find out more about our carbon reduction journey, and the support we offer local businesses, by visiting the net zero section on our website.

Next Stop: Net Zero – Lunch and Learn Series

Our lunch and learn series will be delivered every other month, focussing on different topics within Net Zero, to help businesses on their Net Zero journey. Expert speakers will share their experiences and top tips and provide an opportunity for businesses to find out more about topics and join in discussions with their peers.
