Swindon & Wiltshire Initiative is an integral part of the region’s policy making and decision taking Initiative board, local business leaders and Initiative members to deliver on the below in 2019:
Institute of Technology
Business West played a vital role in engaging anchor employers and galvanising the business community to get behind the successful Institute of Technology (IoT) bid for Swindon. Swindon & Wiltshire Initiative members Nationwide, Catalent Pharma Solutions and Excalibur Communication all signed up to back the IoT. We will continue to work with Steve Wain of Swindon College throughout 2019 to help progress the IoT project.
Switch on to Swindon
An incredibly successful project commenced in 2017 where the Ambassador network now encompasses 630 members from 440 companies. Ian Larrard sits on the Place Board Steering Group and Tina Doyle provides a small secretariat function. We have been pressing, after the success of Year 1, to progress with a greater ‘external’ face of Swindon. Namely to attract staff to the Borough and to our businesses; plus improving the Inward Investment prospects for the area. The Initiative, being the largest business organisation in the town, still undertakes much of the business engagement aspect and has by far the greatest knowledge of business needs.
Swindon Cultural Development Partnership
An extremely important strand of work in improving Swindon’s image, and for our members who constantly face challenges of staff recruitment/retention. Its core aims are to highlight and bring together the many cultural organisations across the town. Ian Larrard will Chair the new Partnership and a bid to the Arts Council England (ACE) of £75k for resourcing of the Partnership is being submitted in July, outcome September. We are working with National Portfolio Organisations (NPOs) and through our efforts (NA/ITL), SBC has agreed to provide match funding of £30k to this bid.
Campaigns for Change
The Initiative works hard to capture and represent the views of our business community, not only at a local and regional level but at a national level, on topical issues ranging from Brexit to West of England devolution. Read more on our policy activity under the Campaigns for Change hub.
Swindon & Wiltshire Initiative and its partners are people committed to enabling the business community to focus on the long term improvement of its social and economic infrastructure and determined to make our area the best place to work and live for all of its residents.
