Don't miss next year's Bristol Breakfast Rotary Club’s Dragon Boat Festival

Tony Hughes
Immediate Past President and Membership Chair
30th November 2018

Bristol Breakfast Rotary Club’s Dragon Boat Festival raised a wonderful total of £45,000 this year, so President Roger Key sends his thanks to all companies and individuals who took part in making it such a successful event.

On 19th September we held a presentation breakfast at which we passed on £27,000 to our lead charity Caring in Bristol, who do a brilliant job providing temporary overnight accommodation for some of Bristol’s homeless. We also awarded prizes to teams for the best fancy dress costumes and the most amount raised, and to the participants who raised the largest sums.

Other causes supported with the balance of the proceeds include:

• a local charity, Water Survival Box, for the Indonesian Tsunami http://www.watersurvivalbox.org/ ;
• Swifts Inclusive Sports’ Swimming Gala at Horfield Leisure Centre – the event is now so popular among the disability swimming community that competitors travelled from as far as Birmingham and Plymouth https://www.somersetasa.org/sasa/en/News/News-Items?newsid=3120
• Two of Rotary’s programmes for young people - the Young Musician https://www.rotarygbi.org/projects/young-people/competitions/ and Youth Leadership Awards https://www.rotarygbi.org/projects/young-people/rotary-youth-leadership-...
• the national Rotary flooding appeal in Kerala, India https://www.rotarygbi.org/rotary-assist-kerala-flooding/ ;
• Rotary’s own international charity, Rotary Foundation https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/rotary-foundation ;
• Rotary’s international campaign to eradicate polio, End Polio Now https://www.endpolio.org/ ;
• Maji Safi (Kenya) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/12197910/Librar... ;
