New industry led music and sound design courses offering fast track career development for aspiring composers and sound designers are launching this month at Radium.

This Emmy award-winning music and sound company behind the soundtracks to some of the biggest global film and game trailer titles including Sicario 2:Soldado; Battlefield 5; Bladerunner 2049; Black Panther; Avengers 3: Infinity War; Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom; A Quiet Place; and many more.

Designed as a career kickstarter for aspiring sound and music creators, Radium Sonic Workshops intensive courses will take place at the company’s 3,600 sq ft production hub in Bristol, commencing from September 2018. On offer is practical, hands-on exploration of proven creative and technical approaches to sound and music for moving image; current insider knowledge on deal negotiation; creative scoping and project management; and a takeaway creative and promotion toolkit to springboard future success.

Radium Founder Andrew Diey says: “Recently we’ve seen heightened press and media debate over the merits of formal university versus industry vocational learning for a successful career start. We think there’s a growing role for shorter length, practical and more cost effective industry based learning, embedded in companies and teams who do what they do successfully in the real world. This is especially true of rapidly changing sectors like ours, where things move so quickly, that in the years it can take to complete a traditional formal qualification, learning can sometimes become outdated before it has a chance to be applied professionally, or may be too focused on theory to easily integrate into our competitive and fast paced world.”

“Graduate and early career music and sound jobseekers far outnumber available inhouse positions at commercial studios. Most will enter the market as self employed freelancers. We’ve developed a package of tools and know-how for sound and music creators to access through our workshops, combining practical hands on creative upskilling with project management techniques and business modelling to help them forge commercially successful careers even if they don’t land a full time inhouse job in the industry.”

“As well as providing real world immersion in our working studio, we offer a takeaway toolkit which participants will keep and use to drive their careers forward whether targeting inhouse studio positions or going it alone in the freelance market. We’re accepting only 4 participants per group, so we can offer individual mentoring and bespoke personal development for each person attending. We’re really looking forward to connecting with aspiring sound and music professionals out there, inviting them into our world, discovering new talent, and strengthening the pool of emerging UK sound and music expertise.”
