The current situation is changing our business world, in some cases forever. When some kind of normality returns, how we operate/trade/transact etc will undoubtedly be very different.

So how will you make sure you are ready?

The strategic starting point for any organisation is to have a well-defined purpose.

I always refer back to the comment made by Dave Brailsford the Director of the then Team Sky pro cycling team, when he was asked how they had achieved such unprecedented success in the Tour de France. His answer was simple, everyone was on the same page. They understood and bought into the team's purpose. Putting the achievement of the team's purpose before any personal objectives.

Of course in sport purposes are very clear and vary from day to day, tournament to tournament etc.

Many businesses don't review and re-define their purpose frequently enough in normal times.

Reviewing and re-defining your purpose NOW is esssential:

Is the solution you were previously (before the lockdown) providing still relevant?

What are you trying to achieve from your business?

Is everyone within your organisation aware of what the company is trying to achieve?

These are just a few of the strategic questions that need answering.

I think the other crucial aspect to consider at this time, is how you can maintain and develop new customer relationships.

If you are trading less, or even not at all, it is difficult to maintain relationships. Often once someone stops buying from a supplier, the habit is lost and by default a trigger for change occurs. During this unfortuanate  period, many such triggers are happening.

So aligned to your strategic plan, you need a clear well thought through sales and marketing strategy.
