Bristol continues to push ahead with its Clean Air Zone, which it intends to start later this year. The majority of the area will be in the City centre, but it also extends out to the Cumberland Bridge and A4 Portway which will impact traffic driving towards the Motorway system, even if those vehicles were not to pass through the centre.

Differing from Bath, private cars will be included in the charging regime with a minimum requirement for Euro 4 for petrol and Euro 6 for diesel vehicles. Bristol will shortly be added to the Government’s checker system, but the fee structure will be the same as that currently employed in Birmingham.

A number of exemptions will be allowed, such as people having long term care at Bristol Royal Infirmary, but they will end at the beginning of 2023.

Grants and loans are available to upgrade vehicles.

Businesses not based in Bristol, but who operate there, will be able to apply for funding. However, there will be some kind of minimum requirement, such as being able to show entry is needed into the CAZ two days every week.

You will be able to send in specific questions to cazsupport@bristol.gov.uk
