In response to the UK cost of living crisis and the increasing number of organisations and individuals which have experienced difficulties with new customs regulations post-Brexit, Business West has launched a new ATA Carnet 15% discount for registered charities.

This comes as a recent charity bike trip was recently hit with a hefty Spanish customs duty charge of over £7000 that could have been avoided with a Business West ATA Carnet.

An ATA Carnet is a customs document that allows the duty and tax-free temporary import of goods and equipment into countries that participate in the ATA Carnet scheme (over 80 countries including Europe) for up to 12 months.

Catherine Stephens, Head of International Trade Services at Business West said:

“Many charities who had previously gone to the EU temporarily, pre-Brexit, for fundraising events such as charity bike rides and other sporting events with no documentation, are now finding they are getting to the customs borders and are being asked for a Carnet before being allowed into the customs territory or country. If the charity does not have this document, they are being hit with heavy import duty fines.”

“We understand, particularly during times like these, charity funds are precious and often these fines can be thousands of pounds. The duties charged by overseas customs can totally wipe out any funds raised and even lead to charities folding as a result. To try and help charities overcome these problems, Business West is offering a 15% discount on the issue fee of the Carnet.”

In order to receive the 15% discount* on the standard ATA Carnet price, simply quote 'Registered Charity 15% discount' when you apply in the Messages to Chamber section on eCert, Business West’s online export documentation platform.

*Does not apply with any other discount.
