A Stroud company is one of the trailblazing firms reinventing their business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
Stroud Brewery - producer of organic beers - is one of the leading lights in the B Corp South West family of companies, which also includes Business West.
B Corp addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of governance, workers, community, environment and customers.
The B Corp certification process is rigorous with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency.
I asked Greg Pilley, managing director of Stroud Brewery how being accredited to B Corp has helped his company grow.
“B Corp is now part of the DNA of our enterprise. I justified joining B Corp as it provides a differentiation in the market for us.
“I think that B Corp companies are now beginning to be recognised for the holistic measurement of a business’ performance.”
What is Stroud Brewery’s current business philosophy?
“Our current mission is to make outstanding organic beer without damage to people or planet - to bring people together and inspire positive change.”
What a positive message that is from Greg who I have tried to support in his endeavours since he founded the business 17 years ago.
And now, after Business West has also just gained B Corp status, Greg has brewed us a special beer to celebrate our certification.
Cheers, Greg - you and your team are a force for good and to be admired.
