When a council makes the claim that they aim to be the greenest in the UK it can sound like quite a hollow pledge.

Where is the detail and how can local business really become involved and benefit?

I have to admit that I initially had that sort of feeling about the claim by Cotswold District Council.

But after chairing a Business West webinar with the council last week on the Green Agenda in the Cotswolds, I was very impressed by their plans and enthusiasm.

I was actually inspired to hold the webinar after reading one of the best council reports for a long time - Green Economic Growth Strategy.

Have a read and let me know what you think.

You can actually watch a recording of the Business West event with the council here.

The themes discussed include the council’s commitment to green economic growth, the “Building Back Better” project and supporting businesses to invest in green technologies.

Businesses listen to other businesses and the case studies on the webinar recording are an excellent way of sharing experience.

Has your company yet thought about their environmental targets in this year of COP 26 when climate change will hopefully come to the fore?

Business West is carbon neutral and committed to reach net zero by 2030.

We want to help local business also take action.

So, we have launched a Trading to Net Zero hub which has key information and resources.

It looks at how you can reduce direct or indirect carbon emissions, and how we can collectively accelerate our region.

You can find out more by clicking here.

Human activities are estimated to have already caused 1°C of global warming above pre-industrial levels and unless drastic action is taken we will surpass the 1.5°C threshold in the next 30-50 years.

Cotswold District Council are now taking some big first steps to help business help themselves become greener.
