“The United States is a market almost like none other. You have a GDP of $17.5 trillion.

“You have 320 million+ consumers; a very high percentage of them that have significant disposable income. You have innovation encouraged and alive in all parts of the United States. You have people who like to  work and get ahead”.

This is the clarion call made by the American entrepreneur Warren Buffett, which was the theme of a special United States export event staged by Business West with the Department for International Trade and UK Export Finance.

Business West works with the Department for International Trade - the government’s export arm - in this region and the event was staged at Renishaw’s Innovation Centre at New Mills, Wotton-under-Edge.

“Doing Business in the USA” was sponsored by the AVITUS GROUP, whose Director of Business Development in the UK and Europe, Dr Frank Levene, was the key speaker.

He has more than 35 years’ successful experience as a UK and international chief executive and is an expert in facilitating investments into the USA.

It was clear that several Gloucestershire companies represented at the event were very keen to explore the enormous export opportunities that America holds for them.

Frank Levene made quite an inspirational presentation of those opportunities.

There was also great interest in a presentation made by Susanna Hardy, Director Client Services from IBT Online in Bristol about websites and online marketing for the US market.
