Federico joined Business West’s Chamber of Commerce in 2020, and we’re delighted to be hosting an event with him at his pasta workshop in Bath. We spoke with him to find out more about the Pasta Laboratory, why he became a Chamber member and finally what attendees can look forward to from our networking event in June.
Please can you give me a brief introduction about yourself and your business?
Hi! My name is Federico Uliana, and I'm the director and owner of the Pasta Laboratory in Bath. The Pasta Laboratory provides culinary experiences to help people rediscover the power of food and its ability to bring friends and strangers together. Even though our speciality is fresh pasta, we believe that our brand should promote all foods worldwide. This is why we collaborate with other food specialists to offer a never-ending variety of experiences. We do the pasta, our friends do the rest!
What made you start your pasta making classes and what do people love the most about them?
The pandemic changed our business plans and direction drastically, which on reflection worked out really well for us. Our little company had to look at remodelling the business as production was not a viable option, and as the pasta-making idea was one that I'd been thinking about for a number of years, it felt like the perfect time to give it a try. After the lockdown, we decided to focus the business solely on events and pasta-making experiences, which has proved to be the right decision!
What are your future plans for the Pasta Laboratory?
We would love to have the Laboratory as a central hub for supper clubs, classes and other events in Bath. The idea is to collaborate with as much local talent as possible to promote an original concept.Our longer-term plan is to have additional Laboratories in different areas of the United Kingdom to offer similar culinary experiences. The Pasta aspect will slowly take a step back in other places to allow others to promote their offering and collaborate with other chefs like we do in Bath.
When did you become a Business West Chamber member?
We joined in 2020.
Why did you decide to become a member of our chambers of commerce?
Through working with Business West on the Workforce for the Future Project, I ended up having a discussion with our dedicated consultant from Business West who pointed me in the direction of the Chamber of Commerce.
What would you say is the best thing about being a Chamber member?
Being a Chamber member has helped me raise my company profile, and it also supported me through a minor legal matter we faced by facilitating an introduction to a local lawyer.
We are hosting a networking event at Pasta Laboratory. What can people expect from attending?
The Pasta Laboratory is a unique place designed to make you feel like you are at someone’s house, and we’ll keep you well fed with a selection of fresh pasta which you can enjoy during the event. We want this networking event to feel casual, comfortable and with a fun twist involving the rolling out of pasta.
What advice would you give to people thinking of coming along?
Don’t put your best clothes on and enjoy an evening of food and good company!
Our networking event on at the Pasta Laboratory is taking place on the 7th June and is open to both Chamber Members and non-members. It’s taking place in the evening and includes plenty of opportunities for networking, a delicious fresh pasta buffet and a word from Federico and our Chamber team. We’d love to see you there!
