Leigh Court is a magnificent Palladian mansion situated just outside of Bristol. It is not only an events and wedding venue, but a well-appointed and serviced office space, which Business West and a wide range of tenant businesses call home.

One of our tenants is Phoenix Cargo Services, a leading international freight forwarder and logistics provider with headquarters at Leigh Court and warehouse facilities at the Avonmouth freight centre. Phoenix have had offices in the main house at Leigh Court for over 10 years and their office space has grown with them. We spoke to Chris Padfield, director at Phoenix, about how he and his dog, Doug, enjoy working at Leigh Court – a dog-friendly office!

What do you like about having an office at Leigh Court?

Leigh Court is by far one of the best places I have worked at, with great facilities, very friendly staff and other tenants. It is nice to be in the countryside but also just a short bike ride from the city.

How do you find the commute to Leigh Court?

I feel very lucky to have one of the best commutes in the UK. I cycle into work and bring my dog, Doug, with me. We travel over the Clifton Suspension Bridge, then along North Road, and the remainder of the commute is through the middle of Leigh Woods. It’s beautiful.

Does Doug like working from Leigh Court?

Doug is a great companion to have in the office – he loves the commute and walks around the grounds during my lunch hour. We tend to walk either around the estate, through the fields, or we go down to The Grotto. He particularly enjoys a swim at Paradise Bottom on a hot, sunny day!

How does working at Leigh Court compare to your previous offices?

It’s always a pleasure to come into Leigh Court to work. Christmas time is my favourite, with the seasonal decorations. And there always seems to be an event or function going on which keeps things exciting. It has also been such a nice change for me. I’ve gone from living and working in central London, to now working in a much more tranquil environment and with such nice people.
