Gympanzees

There are 66,000 children and young people with disabilities within an hour of Bristol, and over 1.1 million in the UK. 77% of them cannot access regular leisure facilities, so can’t play, exercise or socialise in the same ways as their peers and are twice as likely as non-disabled children to be lonely. Whole families are isolated, with 72% of parents suffering mental health problems as a result.
Our mission at Gympanzees is to enable every child and young person with a disability to access regular play, exercise and friendship, to improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing, and to take their families out of isolation. This is achieved through our Pop-Up which include specialised gyms, soft play, active and calm sensory and music rooms, trampolines, therapy suites and social cafés. We also offer remote support via an online resource hub full of activities and helpful videos, specialist therapy advice and an equipment Lending Library.
Our Pop Up events have proven to be extremely popular with our families - almost 4,000 children plus their families have relied upon them across the 58 days that the Pop Ups have been open. Some families have even travelled over five hours to attend and 98% of all who attended loved it and would come back. Our remote support has also been very popular, with over 370,000 impressions of our social media content, over 32,000 page views on our website and over 480 families regularly using our lending
library.
Our plan is to open a dedicated exercise and leisure facility in Bristol. Our purpose built facility will have everything under one roof to support the health and well-being of 70,000 children and young people with disabilities and their families every year. A UK first, it will include a host of activity rooms(such as music, trampoline, sensory and soft play), a specialised gym, accessible playgrounds, exercise suites, therapy rooms and a community café. Catering for people (0-25yrs) with sensory, physical, learning difficulties, SEN and any mild to profound disability and open seven days a week, our new home will provide endless possibilities for health, happiness and support. We've launched a fundraising appeal, Project Home, and plan to open the facility in 2023.
