Businesses in the UK have faced significant challenge over the last few years, faced with the impacts of Brexit, the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing current landscape of the cost-of-living crisis.  As we try to recover from these turbulent times, it is vitally important for us to have a clear understanding of business needs and priorities.

One of the ways that Business West supports the business community in the region is by running a Quarterly Economic Survey in partnership with the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC). The results of this survey are reported to the Government, Bank of England, policymakers, and senior leaders responsible for shaping the future of this country.

At the BCC Conference  held earlier this year, Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, cited  the Quarterly Economic Survey  as the most accurate source of data that he had on how the businesses of the UK were doing.

Your Opinion Counts

Your voice carries weight in the current economic climate. No matter where your business stands, your real-world experiences are a vital foundation for advocating change. By actively participating in the Quarterly Economic Survey, you provide invaluable evidence that enables us to directly engage with key decision-makers. Through a partnership with the British Chambers of Commerce network, we unite to amplify the collective concerns of businesses like yours when engaging with influential figures, including Ministers, Members of Parliament, and even the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee.

This quarter's survey (Q3 2023) is especially significant as it delves deeper into the issues of sustainability and its impact on businesses in the region. Your perspectives from the front lines offer insights into the challenges, needs, and concerns that intersect between business and sustainability. This information empowers us to articulate your unique position to policymakers while simultaneously raising public awareness about the hurdles you face.

Furthermore, your input helps us refine our support for businesses striving to enhance their climate resilience.

What Have We Done So Far?

As an example, this will be the third time we ask questions on sustainability and climate change, and responses to date from these earlier questions in the Quarterly Economic Survey have guided our efforts and support for businesses in the region. The answers we received have driven the development of tailored workshops and personalised 1-2-1 support for over 280 businesses since January 2022.

We Need You

Engaging with the Quarterly Economic Survey is a straightforward process that will only take a few minutes of your valuable time. Your input will remain completely confidential and will play a pivotal role in shaping a more vibrant economic landscape for the South West. Participants will also receive a full and detailed report of the results after the survey ends, and reminders to participate in future surveys so you don’t have to check when it’s running.
