Vegan chocolatier prepares for Easter with help from Business West

1st April 2021

Moo Free, a vegan chocolate producer based in Holsworthy, Devon, has grown its exports by 3% over the last year with the support of Business West’s export documentation team.

Jeremy Whittaker, the company’s Logistics and Warehouse Manager said: “during the lockdown, there has been a 200% uplift on online sales and with veganism growing in recent years, the company has been flourishing with this rise in demand for quality vegan products.”

The company initially reached out to Business West before Christmas to get prepared for the new documentation requirements post-Brexit.

Jeremy said:

“I tried to complete customs declarations on my own and it was a real struggle. Now we’ve engaged with Business West who were able to do this for us, it’s taken a weight off my shoulders.”

With Easter just around the corner, Moo Free has experienced a surge in orders from countries such as Spain, Norway, Australia, and Canada with consumers keen to stock up in time for the international holiday.

Jeremy continued:

“I’m still learning and I’m going to attend one of Business West’s export documentation training courses through the government grants made recently available.

“There’s so much that needs to be done in terms of declarations and getting your documents in order.

“The benefit of getting someone to do them for you is the time factor. Before, I was spending a huge amount of time getting our paperwork in order and I was getting bounce backs from customs in other countries.

“It’s about letting the experts in the field at Business West do their job and take the pressure off for you. You’ll save so much time.”

Moo Free has also received advice from Business West on the legalities surrounding food packaging as well as guidance on Incoterms when trading with EU countries.

  • I’d like to say a big thank you to Business West’s Customs Declarations team. A few weeks ago, I could not find any agent to make my import declaration for an order placed with our Italian supplier. The team offered me its services and made my life 100% easier. I highly recommend them.
