In September two Swindon schools will be holding Your Future Career Fairs and are looking for businesses to help participate and exhibit at the events!

The Your Future Careers Fairs are part of a Careers and Enterprise Company funded national project to deliver a series of 115 events through Chambers of Commerce, attracting almost 29,000 young people across England. These events are for young people aged 11-18 to provide them with encounters with local employers, information: motivating, inspiring and enabling them to engage more proactively with future careers guidance. These events aim to be exciting, fast moving and motivational.

Swindon in 2015 was highlighted as a cold spot for employer engagement with young people by the Careers and Enterprise Company and as such has received several additional funded programmes alongside the Your Future Careers Fairs which have dramatically increased the engagement of businesses with schools locally. The Enterprise Adviser Network, match funded by Swindon Borough Council, has provided an adviser from business to each of the 20 secondary schools, colleges and SEN schools in Swindon to help coordinate employer engagement.

West Berkshire Education Business Partnership was also funded to provide an additional 250 work experience places for schools over the last 12 months and this recently ran the Destination Expo (see below) at the Steam Museum which had over 50 employers and hundreds of young people attended.

The two schools in Swindon hosting the Your Futures Careers Fairs are Swindon Academy and The Commonweal School.

Swindon Academy will be hosting events in three consecutive Fridays (9am-1:30pm) in September and are looking for sector specific businesses to attend:

Friday 8 September - Occupational therapy and social care
Friday 15 September -  Creative/media; sport/leisure and legal
Friday 22 September - Transport/infrastructure

The Commonweal School is open to all businesses and sectors and will be hosting their event on the 27th September from 1pm-6pm.

For more details on these events and if your business would like to complete a booking form to attend, please email myself, Jane Steenstra (Swindon Academy) or Julia Rose (The Commonweal School).
