Driving Global Trade Forward

As a member of Business West Chamber of Commerce, you're already part of a powerful network that is driving global trade and economic growth. The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), led by William Bain, Head of Trade Policy, is leading the way in helping UK businesses unlock new opportunities and markets.

Under the banner of "Global Britain," the latest initiatives focus on increasing the flow of foreign direct investment into the UK and boosting the export of goods and services. The aim is to place Britain firmly back on the global stage as a leader in trade and innovation.

This strategic approach includes promoting sector-specific export growth, simplifying customs procedures, and enhancing relations with the EU. Efforts are also directed toward supporting businesses in expanding their international footprint by leveraging trade agreements and policy changes.

Policy Wins

Since the General Election, these are some of the Policy wins we have achieved:

  • Government Strategy: Commitment to making exports a key part of the UK's economic growth strategy.
  • CE Marking: Indefinite extension for the use of CE marking on construction sector goods in Great Britain.
  • EU Trade Relations: Pledge to improve trade and economic relations with the EU, alongside the goal to complete trade deals in six priority markets (India, South Korea, Switzerland, Türkiye, Gulf Cooperation Council states, and Israel).
  • Foreign Influence Registration Scheme: Delay in the implementation of this scheme until at least 2025 due to concerns over trade impacts.
  • Regulatory Alignment: To mitigate industrial, electrical, and electronics export costs through the Product Regulation and Metrology Bill.
  • Electronic Commerce Agreement: Progress towards an international Agreement on Electronic Commerce with the UK and 90 other global trade partners.
