Member Spotlight: Andrew Wright, Deloitte

I was recently appointed as practice senior partner for Deloitte in the South West and Wales. I’ve been with Deloitte for nearly 30 years, and now have the privilege of leading a combined team of over 2,300 people.

I have been a partner at the firm since 2012, and have led Deloitte’s audit business in Bristol and Cardiff. I’m also part of the National Deloitte Private leadership team, and our Global Audit Transformation Group.

I’ve built my career in Bristol and Wales, so have a great understanding of the business landscape here.

I oversee the firm’s strategic direction across the South, West and Wales, based in our state-of-the-art office in the Halo Building in Bristol.

Our aim is for the practice to be rooted in our local business community, making a tangible impact for our clients while developing our people through upskilling initiatives.

What does your organisation do? Why do you like working for them?

Deloitte’s expertise is well known. As a professional services firm, our people work across audit and assurance, tax and legal, technology and transformation and strategy, risk and transactions advisory.

In the South West, we work with global, national, and regional businesses, across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, green energy, and the digital economy. In short, we are working with clients – in both the public and private sector – to shape the future of the economy in the South West.

One of the best parts of my role is seeing our people develop, and grasping the opportunities that the firm provides. We recently announced a series of promotions across the South West, including two new partners, among a total of 211.

Deloitte is not only a leading employer in the region, but a firm that can act as a key business convener. We are leading conversations, powered by our powerful insights, that are driving debate in defence, climate technology, AI governance, infrastructure and South West growth more generally.

Why have you joined the Bristol Initiative?

At the heart of what we want to do in the South West is offer our people careers that they love, in the place that they love.

Part of that is ensuring that we are grounded in our local business community. We share the ambition of those that want to drive forward the South West economy, so that we are embracing the opportunities for growth that exist.  

In short, our UK-wide business is driven by how connected our teams are with their local communities, the networks they build and the impact they make. Our global scale makes us strong, but UK-wide, local relationships and collaboration make us relevant in the communities we’re based in. That’s why our participation in the Bristol Initiative makes sense.  

What are the key agendas that you’re looking forward to getting involved with?

We are immersed in so many of the sectors that are shaping the South West’s future, and I’m keen that my colleagues from across the practice are connecting with like-minded peers from other firms and business bodies. Likewise, as I settle into my new role, I will be making the case for the South West not just here in the region, but as my work takes me around the country and beyond.

Where is your favourite place to visit in Bristol?
Bristol has so many things to offer, there is a reason so many people move here and graduates stay-on but the thing I always highlight to visitors is the diverse range of high quality, independent restaurants we can enjoy. The food scene is exceptional, there is always somewhere new to try and I am always willing to play my part.
