Business West MD Phil Smith to retire after 30 years of leadership

Business West today announced that Phil Smith will retire as Managing Director in spring 2026, after three decades of service.

Under Phil Smith’s leadership, Business West has focused on driving long-term prosperity for businesses and the region. This includes helping individual businesses succeed, building business communities, shaping partnerships, and helping to secure public and private investment into the region. 

He has steered the company through several periods of growth, mergers and transformation, and navigated significant challenges including recessions, Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The recruitment process for a new CEO is now underway, with interviews taking place in October and November.
