HR Support Webinar: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

This workshop aimed to equip attendees with a toolkit of information, which enabled them to feel more empowered in providing access and inclusion for disabled people. We covered some key areas pertaining to recruitment practices, as well as within the workplace, to promote job satisfaction and retention for your employees. 

Topics covered:

  • Overview of the Equality Act 2010 
  • Reasonable adjustments in recruitment practices and at work 
  • Overview of the Access to Work scheme 
  • The Social Model of Disability 
  • Language and Communication (Top tips for documents, and discussing day-to-day communication and language around disability) 
  • Q&A with the trainers 

 

Course Providers:

Anthony Hearn - WECIL

Anthony has been working for WECIL close to a decade in various roles, allowing him to get a wraparound overview of the issues disabled people face in their day-to-day life. Since 2018, he has been involved with our Employability Services, providing 1:1 support for disabled jobseekers in finding employment as well as running a 12-week employability course to support disabled people in or out of work. More recently, his focus has been as a Specialist Navigator, covering all employment-related queries, in addition to 1:1 consultancy work with disabled employees. Anthony is passionate in ensuring that disabled people can have a positive experience in the workplace, acknowledging how important it is that disabled people who are able to work are supported to do so.”

Layla Taylor

Layla has worked for WECIL since September 2021 as a Lived Experience Facilitator and as a Trainer. They have been involved in various different projects including Inclusive Policing With Confidence in partnership with Avon and Somserset Police where they delivered workshops both as a LEF and Trainer around various topics Disability Equality Training, Neurodiversity, Gender Identity among others. They currently work delivering tailored training packages to various organisations specialising in Disability Equality and Neurodiversity. 

About WECIL

WECIL is a user led organisation supporting Disabled people to live the life they choose. Our approach is fully user centred. Our staff have lived experience and this informs the support we offer. We have a range of service that support Disabled people from Direct Payment support, supporting staff and managers through our business support offer to support disabled children and their families. WECIL is dedicated to supporting independent living to create a more inclusive society and we work with anyone who identifies as being a Disabled person.
