Since the start of the government Kickstart Scheme in September 2020, Business West has helped over 130 young people into work, assisting them to secure roles with some of the region’s top employers.
Six month paid placements have included a variety of job roles, from Hair Salon Assistant and Trainee Business Analyst, to Store Operative and Social Media Assistant.
Lizzie Lyons, Project Manager for Skills at Business West commented, “It’s great that via the Kickstart Scheme, we’ve been able to help so many young people into work, and in to industries they are keen to work in, where they may not have had the opportunity before.”
Feedback from those placed via the scheme has also been positive, with some saying it has ‘changed their life.’
Shaieke Granston is nearing the end of the six month placement with Business West as a Social Media and Content Assistant and commented, “The Kickstart scheme has been a brilliant opportunity for me to develop new skills and get experience in a corporate setting. I’ve really enjoyed creating assets such as images and video content to use on social media and getting to know the team I work with.”
As well as helping young people into work, Business West supported 140 businesses to apply for the scheme and advertise their job roles and 75% of those who have completed their placement have gone on to full time roles as a result.
Applications for the Kickstart Scheme have now closed but placements can be made up until the end of March 2022.It provides a six month paid job with a local employer, funded by the Government, for young people to gain experience of working in some of our region’s most exciting companies.
