Cotswold District Council deserve the plaudits of our local businesses as they help us to help companies to back an initiative at a time of unprecedented challenges to firms.

“Listening to Business” is an online collaborative event organised by Business West with the council and GFirstLEP, taking place on Friday 18th November. A panel of politicians, business leaders and experts will be on hand to give advice on the many current issues being faced by companies.

I will be chairing the panel at this free event, which will include Councillor Tony Dale, Cotswold District Council’s Cabinet member for the economy.

Tony is a straight talking supporter of local companies with an extensive business background himself. He told me: “I am very keen that people understand that Cotswold District Council is not only working for business to help it succeed and thrive, but we are also focussed on listening to how our business and residents want to be supported.

“We are here to boost the bigger and smaller companies to plan their futures with some degree of certainty”.

This is the sort of encouraging message to business, which has been sadly lacking from our national government in the turmoil of recent weeks. Business simply wants certainty and viability at a time when they need to plan for a difficult winter with many facing big Covid loan repayments, particularly.

Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, MP for the Cotswolds, will be on the panel with my chair at GFirstLEP, Ruth Dooley.

As well as interacting with the panellists, attendees will hear from Ian Woodward-Court, Director at Watermoor Point. I am very impressed by the set-up at Watermoor Point-the former Colt Car company headquarters at Watermoor, Cirencester which is now a flexible employment site with offices and storage. In less than a year, around 80 per cent of the current office space is already occupied- Watermoor Point is a great initiative for start-ups and SMEs in the Cotswolds.

The event is open to all SMEs in Gloucestershire who are interested in voicing their questions and hearing from local politicians, business leaders and experts. You can register to attend the November 18 event and get details of all the panellists here
