As busy professionals, we know what it’s like when you open your inbox to a flurry of emails that have somehow found their way to you overnight. Without thinking, you delete all the ones that don’t seem important and crack on with your priorities for the day.

One or two may catch your eye though – an event or workshop which sounds interesting, so you book on – it’s free after all, and pop it in your diary. Fast forward a few weeks and you realise you’re meant to be attending that event tomorrow and you start asking, is it really worth my time out of the office? All the work I could get done if I didn’t go… and who really wants to attend an early morning workshop anyway?

Of course we’re biased, so we would say that our recently launched Business Skills Workshops are worth the early wake-up call and a few hours away from your desk, but don’t just take our word for it. We’ve put together five reasons why you won’t regret attending, so take a read before you hit the delete button.

1. Network with likeminded business people

Our workshops are open to all types of businesses across the whole of the West of England. They’re not restricted to a particular sector, so there will be a range of people to network with. One thing you will all have in common though, is your interest in the particular topic being covered in the workshop and we encourage attendees to share thoughts and ideas about how to tackle particular issues. Who knows, you may meet someone who can help you with part of your business.

2. FREE access to expert advice on key business topics

That interesting word….FREE. All of our workshops don’t cost a penny to attend, but that doesn’t mean the content isn’t valuable! As they’re put on by Skills West, a fully funded project, we don’t charge our delegates, so you can come along for no money at all. For these particular workshops, we’ve also teamed up with three great businesses who really are experts in their field – Flexology, a recruitment firm in Bristol, Atoll HR, a HR Consultancy and The South West Apprenticeship Company – all of whom are keen to share their knowledge to help your business. You can meet all of them in our Q&A blogs by following the links above.

3. Learn new skills to develop and grow your business

All of our workshops cover different topics, from recruitment and flexible working, to talent management, developing your existing staff and apprenticeships. They offer practical solutions and advice for you to take back to your business and hopefully implement. If that isn’t enough, you will also meet one of our expert skills advisers on the day who will be happy to meet for a one-to-one appointment separately and can point you in the right direction for all types of queries.

4. Hear new ideas which could benefit your organisation

As well as hearing ideas, facts, case studies and valuable information from our speakers, our workshops are set up in such a way that you will also have the benefit of sharing ideas and knowledge with the other attendees. They might have had a similar problem in their business which they managed to solve, or perhaps they are slightly further ahead in a process than you so can offer their advice which could benefit your organisation. Everyone knows, it’s great to talk!

5. FREE breakfast and refreshments!

Of course, no event would be complete without some tasty, free refreshments. All of our workshops provide delegates with a hearty breakfast consisting of pastries, fruit and hot and cold drinks. Specific dietary requirement? Don’t worry, we can happily cater for that too and let’s be honest, who can resist free food? There may even be some left over that you’re more than welcome to take back to the office (just pretend you bought them on the way in – brownie points for you!)

If those aren’t enough reasons to join us, one of our latest attendees said;

"The session was really insightful, provided useful stats and the opportunity to engage with local businesses – I will definitely promote the further sessions taking place until the end of this year to any relevant organisations I engage with."
