Saudi Arabia joins the ATA Carnet scheme on 1st June 2024 and the Philippines joins on 15th July 2024 The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has officially welcomed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of the Philippines to its ATA Carnet International Guaranteeing Chain (ATA Chain). This inclusion signifies the global expansion of the ATA Carnet system, which facilitates duty-free and tax-free temporary admission of goods for up to a year. This initiative will be operational in Saudi Arabia from 1st June 2024, and in the Philippines from 15th July 2024, bringing the total number of participating regions to 81. Saudi Customs will accept ATA Carnets for goods used in exhibitions, fairs, and similar events (in accordance with Annex B1 of the Istanbul Convention). Saudi Arabia is a popular hub for expos, conferences, and exhibitions, and with Riyadh hosting the World Expo in 2030, this inclusion is timely.

In the last year, Business West has been working hard to move from its previous shareholder model to being owned by its members. We were able to fully transition to this member-owned model in 2023, and one of our first actions was to schedule an AGM to start a direct dialogue with our new shareholders, the members of the Business West network of regional chambers of commerce. The meeting, held at historic cultural venue Watershed in Bristol, was marked by insightful discussions, reflections on past achievements, and a forward-looking vision for the future.
Today at Leigh Court, Business West celebrated Peru’s inclusion into the ATA Carnet scheme with a Peru-themed event. ATA Carnets streamline the temporary export process for goods and equipment, allowing businesses, musicians, film productions and other organisations to trade internationally with reduced customs complications. Peru’s inclusion in this scheme expands its availability to 79 territories worldwide, enhancing global trade opportunities. Guests, including ATA Carnet customers, suppliers, and staff, were welcomed with a festive Peruvian atmosphere, a highlight being an array of food meticulously crafted by our very own award-winning Epic Caterers. The flavours are a true testament to their culinary skills and were a major talking point among our visitors.
