BCC press release: Latest ONS trade data (November 2023)

The UK trade picture in detail There has been a steady performance for UK services exports in 2023 but this latest data shows a further decline in UK trade in goods, for both imports and exports. This is mainly due to a decline in trade flows with the rest of the world. The trade surplus in services declined slightly in the three months to November, but the trade in goods deficit widened slightly.

Under starters orders for General Election Year

According to the legendary sprinter, Linford Christie, you should start a race as soon as you hear the “B” of the “Bang”. Both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition seem to have adopted that strategy as they have flown out of the blocks to signal the beginning of Election Year. A number of our Initiative members were in Emmerson’s Green to hear Sir Keir Starmer outline Labour’s broad approach, on the same day Rishi Sunak did likewise in the Midlands.

Peru to implement ATA Carnet operations in 2024

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) recently announced Peru's inclusion as the 79th ATA Carnet guaranteeing chain member, allowing duty-free temporary admission of goods. The Lima Chamber of Commerce, designated by Peru Customs, joined the ICC World Chambers Federation (WCF) General Council on November 21st 2023. Peru, the third Latin American country to adopt ATA Carnets, begins operations on April 30th 2024, covering professional equipment and goods for exhibitions and events. The ATA Carnet's introduction in Peru, a process several years in the making, involved intensive training programs by ICC and the World Customs Organisation. Additional virtual training for Customs and chamber staff is planned for January 2024 with support from the United States Council for International Business (USCIB).
